Big turnout for Sydney annual conference

Sydney 2011 poster display

The 2011 Bushfire CRC and AFAC annual conference -- held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre,  Darling Harbour – was without question our biggest, brightest and busiest yet.

More than 1430 people participated in the event, from Monday 29 to Thursday 1 September 2011, while close to 110 industry exhibitors filled the trade hall.

The busy week began on Monday with professional development workshops. Tuesday and Wednesday were packed with panels and presentations across four venues in the sprawling centre. Thursday’s focus was the Bushfire CRC Science Day, where more than 250 participants heard from 30 researchers on the latest in fire science.

If all this was not enough, many conference delegates and researchers then went to Bowral, in the NSW Southern Highlands, for a post-conference workshop on Fire Weather and Risk.  This was a specialised gathering of researchers, meteorologists and fire managers keen to understand more about the dynamics of fire and weather.

Conference presentations, posters, photos and videos are being steadily uploaded to both the Bushfire CRC website and the AFAC Knowledge Web.

The research poster display (pictured) in the middle of the trade expo was a highlight of the conference.

For conference proceedings, keep checking out the Knowledge Web, as it is being regularly updated. Proceedings from the Science Day will soon be online. All the research posters are online below.
