The communities around Mansfield in central Victoria have
produced a book Wildfire in the High Country.
In stories, poems and personal photographs the communities have
remembered the bushfires that dominated their summer of 2006-7.
The Bushfire CRC is a proud sponsor of the book along with the
Country Fire Authority, the Department of Sustainability and
Environment and the Department of Human Services.
More than 100 local residents joined with the sponsors to launch
the book in Mansfield in July. The Chairman of the Bushfire
CRC and local resident Len Foster was master of ceremonies for the
Mansfield launch (pictured above).
The book was formally launched to 60 invited guests from the
broader fire industry on 28 October at the Metropole Hotel in
Fitzroy.

Guests included the Victorian Minister for Police and Emergency
Services the Honorable Bob Cameron (pictured above right, middle)
and members of the Bushfire CRC Board and Stakeholder Council. The
joint editors of the book, Robin Purdey and John Collyer, both
spoke on how the book was helping their community to better
understand and to recover from the bushfires of early
2007.
Wildfire in the High Country costs $25 and is available
from retail outlets around Mansfield and via an order form, at
right. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to assist
local fire brigades, SES and the Red Cross.
