Research Forum will contribute to knowledge sharing and and learning culture

The first day of the AFAC-Bushfire CRC conference is a dedicated Research Forum tailored for emergency management personnel who need to use new research knowledge for their daily work.

The Research Forum (Tuesday 28 August) will provide the opportunity for focused discussions between the research community and emergency managers on important industry issues.

More than 30 researchers from universities and agencies across Australia and New Zealand will describe their latest work covering: fire behaviour and weather; operations and health and safety; land management; and community safety and social sciences.

Keynote speakers include Professor Robyn Owens from the University of Western Australia who will discuss the shape and impact of Australia's research globally, Professor Stephen Dovers of the Australian National University who will examine the impact of fire research across all disciplines and how it might be expected to be incorporated into policy, and Professor Jean Palutikof of Griffith University who will speak on the politics of climate change.

Other researchers will speak on topics such as modifying the behaviour of at risk communities, greenhouse gas emissions and bushfire, the health of firefighters, bushfire spread and decision making in firefighting.
