Input needed for future flood response

Release date

25 February 2026

Researchers from Macquarie University are inviting residents of the mid-North Coast region of New South Wales who received flood warnings or experienced evacuation responses during the May 2025 floods to share their experiences.

The survey responses will form part of the Centre’s Community experiences of flood warnings and evacuation responses during the 2025 NSW mid-North Coast floods project to better understand the lived experiences, perceptions and responses of community members to warnings and evacuation responses associated with the May 2025 floods.

Residents’ input could influence future emergency management policy regarding flood warnings and communication, flood evacuation procedures, understanding of vulnerabilities and identifying ways to better support households and communities to withstand future flooding.

The project team is particularly interested in hearing from people who were advised to evacuate their home or business due to the impact of the floods.

The study is supported by the New South Wales State Emergency Service (NSW SES) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
