Seminar: FIRE, FUEL AND WEATHER
Characteristics of fuels and weather drive fire behaviour. These two back-to-back seminars provided an opportunity to hear from the researchers from across Australia involved in issues such as fire behaviour in shrublands, grassland curing and links to the Grassland Fire Danger Index, and evidence for the importance of fire in maintaining forest health.
The afternoon session focused on the role of atmospheric stability in fires, recent work on dry lightning, local winds and the products currently being developed by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology using current research.
There were opportunities to ask a wide range of researchers questions about fuel, weather and fire. Bushfire CRC researchers and senior agency personnel provided both research updates and operational impacts with discussion on the future challenges to develop effective policy and practice.
