An exciting few months ahead

With the DIISRTE review now behind us, it is time to focus once more on the ‘normal’ activities of the Centre. It is indeed a busy few months ahead. The Research Advisory Forum (RAF) is immediately ahead of us on 23-24 May in Hobart. This forum is always a great opportunity to hear the progress of half of the research portfolio of the CRC and help to shape the future direction. With most of the projects now reporting on around 18 months of solid work, this will be one of the early indications of where they are going and their preliminary findings.

Of course, the annual conference is rushing towards us and the program is looking great. I am particularly looking forward to the Research Forum on day one, which will help to set the scene for the rest of the conference. This will allow practitioners and researchers to hear the latest research from across the Bushfire CRC; from other researchers and end-users. The target audience is researchers and those in agencies with responsibility for understanding the latest breakthroughs.

Also watch for a number of targeted activities, Prof  Marty Alexander, from Canada, will be presenting a seminar in Sydney, on 18 June covering topics around fire danger rating and reasons for fire research. There will be the annual meeting of the North Australian Fire Manager’s Forum in Townsville in mid-June, and the Bushfire CRC is sponsoring a session at the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility’s (NCCARF) annual conference in Melbourne at the end of June.
