AbstractDevastating bushfires have crippled communities across the world in the past decade. Many predict that the severity and frequency of bushfire is on the rise. Hotter weather and more intense fires requiring longer shifts and more frequent deployments represent significant threats to the operational readiness of the volunteers and salaried staff of Australasia’s fire and emergency services. Safeguarding workers’ operational readiness relies, in part, on a robust, relevant evidence-base from which to build policies and procedures. Accordingly, the aim of the current project was to conduct industry-specific research to assist the fire industry to develop comprehensive policy, best practice guidelines, and training and educational materials to preserve the health and safety of their firefighters during multi-day bushfire suppression deployments.
