Quantifying the impact
Created date
Friday, November 9, 2012 - 4:04amWe are increasingly asked to quantify the impact of research. This is often thought of as focusing on the impact of the products the research has led to, but the research process itself can have very positive impacts.
I recently had the opportunity to observe focus groups conducted as part the Urban and regional planning project, part of our Understanding Risk program. These focus groups, conducted to gather information for the project, had an immediate impact in creating conversations between planners and fire managers. The result of which will be improved planning outcomes for fire management well before this project formally delivers outcomes.
I am sure this is not the only project where the research process itself is having such an important impact. If you have had a similar experience, please let me know as it is important we communicate these important outcomes.
